Our self-care gets put on the back burner. Probs the burner behind the back burner. This chronic condition has consequences. Without properly caring for ourselves our well will run dry. So many of us are currently running on empty. We are functioning on fumes. And before long our health, our relationships, our kids, and our joy pays the price.
My mission is to help nurses put their needs and happiness front and center. Yup, the big power burner right in the front is now where we are! We are going to get comfortable caring for ourselves. We HAVE to.
As a nurse of over 16 years at a major hospital in a high stress, fast-paced nursing unit I have been there. I am still there. And the way I keep going is I choose my happiness over and over. I work my happy like a job and it is what allows me to continue to do my job. On my unit I am known for my positive attitude, my energy, and my happiness. My manager came to me and asked me to share my personal tools with every nurse on our unit in a workshop. And poof, NURSE YOUR HAPPY was born.
The need for this is huge right now so I revamped it, beefed it up pandemic style am ready to share it to all those who are in need. Gone are the days of eating our young. I am here to love the young and the seasoned.
Now more than ever nurses are struggling. Frontline fatigue is no joke. I see it on faces I have known for years. We are being asked to do more than we have ever done before. The 12 hour shift remains but the amount of work that fills those hours continues to grow; the bar continues to be raised. And, that was before a global pandemic.
